Nami Island

Nami Island is also called Naminara Republic, located in Bangha-ri, Namsan-myeon, Chuncheon-si. The island was created as a result of the construction of a Cheongpyeong Dam. It is a half moon shaped (462,809㎡) isle, and on it is the grave of General Nami, who led a great victory against the rebels in the 13th year of the 7th king of the Joseon Dynasty, King Sejo (reign 1455 ~ 1468). Namiseom Island is 63 km away from Seoul in the direction of Chuncheon, and is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads.

Walking into the island along the straight way starting from the Nami Island wharf, you can find a grave of General Nami this island named after. He passed the military service examination at the age of 17 and suppressed a riot led by Lee Shi-Ae in the 13th year of King Sejo’ reign of Joseon Dynasty, and then was promoted to ‘Byeongjopanseo (Minister of National Defense)’ at the age of 27. But he died young at 28, denounced as a traitor after King Yejong’s enthronement. A phrase of his poem which is familiar with the Korean is handed down that ‘Not subjugating the whole country as a man, who on earth will call him a hero?’.

This island has a wide grassplot, chest-nut trees, birches, ginko trees, and maples, etc. Besides, equipped with the facilities for recreation and accommodation, a zoo, a botanical garden and pleasure boats, it is well qualified as a all-round recreation center. People love this island as a rest place to provide young people with romance, lovers with reminiscences, families and workers with affection.

A special feature of Namiseom Island is that there are no telephone poles. This is because all electric wires were built underground to keep the natural feeling of the landscape. The complex is 553,560 square yards with chestnut trees and poplar trees around the isle. In the middle of the isle, there is a grass field about 316,320 square yards. It is composed of education and training facilities, camping sites, swimming pools and water-sports facilities for motorboats and water skiing. There is also a theme park with merry-go-rounds, a shooting range, roller skating rink, and there are lodging facilities such as resort villas and bungalows.

In particular, well-known through a TV drama, ‘Winter love song’ in 2002, it is a noted place to not only the natives but Southeast nations like Hongkong.

Girls’ Generation’s YoonA is the Top Earning “Girl Group Center”

It was revealed on the July 12 episode of SBS E! “K-STAR News” that Girls’ Generation’s YoonA was the highest-earning “girl group center” member in all of K-Pop. The “center” member is widely regarded as the most visually appealing, and in a lot of cases most popular member of the group.

According to the report, YoonA topped the likes of miss A’s Suzy, After School’s Uee, Kara’s Goo Hara, and Wonder Girls’ Sohee in terms of total income. YoonA has been able to rake in over 4 billion Korean won (approximately $3.5 million USD) in the first half of 2012. The majority of the revenue came in from TV ads, as she appeared in a total of 20 CFs for an average appearance fee of over 10 million won (approximately $9,000 USD) per ad.

YoonA is also under salary as part of the Girls’ Generation, but all nine members equally distribute their total revenue, so her CF appearances played a big role in winning this honor. Currently, YoonA is under contract with cosmetic brand “Innisfree,” outdoor brand “Eider,” and the water purifier “Woongjin Coway,” among many others.
